Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable long-time rolling at the same temperature by providing spiral grooves on roll surface, fitting a cylindrical roll to this roll and circulating liquid in the grooves thereby heating or cooling the roll. CONSTITUTION:The shaft part 4 at the left end of a roll central axis 5 is connected to a motor. Fluid is flowed through a fluid lead-in system 1, led-in fluid well part 3, lead-in pipe 15, side face grooves 6, lead-out pipe 16, lead-out fluid well part 14 and fluid lead-out system 2. At the time when the fluid flows in the side face grooves 6, it transfers its heat to the roll 3 thereby cooling or heating the roll 3. Because of such construction, the surface temperature of the roll 3 rises or lowers rapidly ro become the specified temperature. Since the fluid is kept circulated at all times even during operation, always constant roll temperature may be maintained.
