Abstract

PURPOSE:To control the roll temperature distribution in the width direction of a roll and to improve the quality of rolling materials, by installing heat pipes in the axially hollow part of a roll to make a heat exchange between the roll and said pipes possible, at the rolling of materials to be rolled by the roll. CONSTITUTION:Heat pipes 4, 4' are installed in an axially hollow part 3 of a milling roll 1 to bring their contacting parts 4-1, 4'-1 into contact with the central part 1-1 of the roll 1 and other contacting parts 4-2, 4'-2 with both end parts 1-2 of the same, respectively. When a material 2 to be rolled is rolled by the roll 1, heat is transferred to both ends 1-2 from the central part of the roll 1 through the heat pipes because the temp. of the central part 1-1 is higher than that of both the ends 1-2, and then the temp. distribution in the direction of the roll 1 width is made uniform. Accordingly, irregular shapes of a rolling material 2 caused by the temp. difference in the temp. distribution in said direction are prevented. One end of the heat pipe is placed at the outside of the roll to make said pipe heat-exchangeable. It is equally well to be made movable in the inside of the hollow shaft.
