Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable high fidelity gradation to be reproduced, by applying a low frequency alternating electric field having given characteristics and transfarring a magnetic developer to a nonimage area under a necessary magnetic restriction.
CONSTITUTION: Photosensitive drum 11 has an insulating layer on a CdS layer, and nonmagnetic sleeve 12 is rotated in the same direction at equal speed. A developing section is formed near the minimal gap of drum 11 and sleeve 12. Fixed permanent magnets 13 are installed in sleeve 12, attract magnetic toner 14, and this is uniformized in thickness on sleeve 12 with magnetic blade 15. Sleeve 12 and blade 15 are kept in conduction, and an alternating voltage in the range shown by formula I is applied to the conductive support of drum 11 from power source 16. In formula I, amplitude of the alternating electric field is Vp-p volts, and frequency is (f) Hz. As a result, a sharp image of high gradation and low fog can be obtained.
