Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve the reduction in edge effect and photographic fog by polarizing conductive magnetic toners by the electric field with the combination of AC bias voltage and electrostatic latent image voltage.
CONSTITUTION: The conductive magnetic toners 6...supported to a magnet 5 are polarized according to the magnetic field with the combination of the AC bias voltage by tha bias current applied to the magnet and the electrostatic latent image voltage formed to an electrostatic latent image substrate 3. The spacial gradients of this electric field are increased in all the positions of the latent image by the AC bias voltage and the suction force acting upon the toner 6 is increased in the portions where the electric field opposing to the image part is strong and these results in increased image density, reduced edge effect, and reduced occurrence of photographic fog in the nonimage portions where the toners become difficult to be suched. The good development is thereby accomplished.
