Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect latent image potential with high precision in a simple construction, by discontinuously cutting electric force lines with a tuning fork vibrating according to piezoelectric elements, and allowing a measuring electrode to generate an AC signal, whose amplitude is proportional to a latent image potential on a recording material.
CONSTITUTION: On applying DC voltage to piezoelectric elements 84 comprising a drive piezoelectric element and a feedback piezoelectric element, tuning fork 82 vibrates automatically at the resonance frequency and chopper electrode 83 composed of one end of fork 82 repeats opening and closing of gap 88 of shield 81, resulting in cutting discontinuously electric force lines due to a latent image potential formed on photosensitive drum 47. As a result, AC voltage having an amplitude proportional to the voltage difference between the surface potential of drum 47 and electrode 83 is induced in measuring electrode 85 provided on print substrate 86, the latent image potential is detected at high precision in a simple construction, permitting control of image formation to be made exactly and a stable image to be formed.
