CONSTITUTION:Defective position indicator 11 capable of indicating the position of defect 5 on surface 2 of photosensitive drum 1 of a copying machine when it occurs, and indicating plate detector 12 for detecting indication of plate 11 are installed. The relative position signal on drum 1 of defect 5 detected with plate 11 and detector 12 is sent to controller 15. Further, slit disc 13 and slit detector 14 as shown in the figure are also installed as a detector for detecting the rotary angle of drum 1, and the signal detected with detector 14 is fed to controller 15. In controller 15 device 16 for forming a latent image is controlled so as to enable the latent image to be formed on the position avoiding defect 5 by the above 2 signals.
