Abstract
PURPOSE:To cheaply manufacture superior slag wool as a high temp. heat insulating material by blending one or more out of mine slime, waste enamel, waste molding sand, etc. into steel making slag after which the blend is melted and converted into fiber. CONSTITUTION:One or more out of mine slime, waste enamel and waste molding sand which were thrown away formerly are blended as alumina and silica sources into steel making slag in a suitable ratio to adjust the slag composition. This blend is then melted in an electric furnace under a reducing atmosphere and converted into fiber by dropping. Thus, slag wool is cheaply obtd. which is superior to commercially available glass wool in heat resistant temp. and comparable to it in heat conductivity.
