Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the adhesion of the organic material covering on a stainless steel without spoiling the appearance by dipping the stainless steel to be coated with an organic material in a chemical treating solution and forming beforehand an oxide film on its surface to the extent of not coloring the same.
CONSTITUTION: Stainless steel is dipped in a treating solution, which is an aqueous mixed solution of, e.g., chromic acid and sulfuric acid. It is taken out at near the C point immediate before it reaches the inflexion point A of an electric potential curve. As a result of this, the thickness of the oxide film on the stainless steel astains the necessary thickness (about 30W300Å) for improving the adhesion to organic material and is not so thick as the colored film.
