Abstract

PURPOSE: To manufacture a porous film having low gas permeability and high moisture permeability, by hot-pressing a laminate of fabric webs composed of a fibrous thermoplastic polymer impregnated with an organic additive, and removing the additive from the film obtained above.
CONSTITUTION: Webs of thermoplastic polymer fibers such as polyolefin, nylon, etc., are laminated with a pair of feed rollers 1, 1' and stretched with a pin tenter 2, 2'. The stretched laminate is pressed with a pair of preliminary press rolls 3, 3', and dipped into a bath 4 containing a solution of an organic additive such as 8W30C higher alcohol, paraffin having a melting point of 40W100°C, etc. The laminate impregnated with 0.05W10 times volume of the organic additive, is squeezed with a pair of squeezing rolls 5, 5', and heated with hot rollers 6, 6' at a temperature higher than the melting point of the polymer by 1W30°C, under a linear pressure of 1W100 kg to obtain a film. The organic additive is removed from the film by immersing the film in solvent baths 7, 8.
