Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce the slab of less nonmetallic inclusions by cooling the molten metal which is passing in the nozzle communicating with a mold from tundish down to its fluidity maintainable temperature region, thereby casting the same in continuous casting of molten metal. CONSTITUTION:The molten metal from a tundish 1 provided with a stopper 2 is supplied continuously to a mold 6 through the long nozzle 3 which is formed with a bend at the bottom end of the straight part and is provided with an ingate, e.g., tunnel 4 in the suitable position of the channel. The molten metal passing in the nozzle 3 is cooled by a force cooler 7, e.g., cooling fan. By lowering the temperature of the molten metal in the nozzle 3 down to around its solidifying temperature, in the case of, e.g., aluminum-killed steel, the molten metal may be fed to the mold while letting the alujina deposit in the nozzle 3 and be thereby removed. In this case, if the alumina in the nozzle 3 gradually grows and becomes the nozzle close, it is desirable to exchange the nozzle with the next one promptly. As a result of this, the solidification time may be reduced and the casting capacity increased.
