Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the accuracy of a repeater margin measurement by applying bipolar pulses of low density, superposed upon a main signal, to the transmission side of the transmission line of a digital regenerative repeater to be measured. CONSTITUTION:A signal generated by pulse pattern generator 6 is converted into main signal A by transmission line code converter 7. Bipolar pulse generator 8 generates as a disturbing wave bipolar pulses B of low density with long pulse repetitive time P to pulse width W, and coupler 4 sends signal C, superposed on main signal A, to the transmission terminal of transmission line 2. The amplitude of pulses B is varied and the error rate of the output regenerated signal of repeater 1 is repeatedly supervised by error rate measurer 5 to measure ratio S/X' of limit-value level X' of bipolar pulses B as level S of main signal A when regeneration comes into effect at less than the allowable error rate, thereby obtaining the margin of the repeater. This method exerts little influence on the operation of the peak value detecting circuit of the repeater, so that the accurate margin can be measured.
