Abstract

PURPOSE: Increased adsorption capacity and magnetic separation is provided by using an ion adsorbent essentially consisting of magnetic ferric hydrous iron oxide mainly comprising γ.FeOOH, δ.FeOOH.
CONSTITUTION: Magnetic hydrous γ.FeOOH, δ.FeOOH containing 5 to 40 % is crushed to particles of about 1 μm to 2 mm, whereby inorganic or organic binder is preferably added to coagulate particles for easy graining. As magnetic hydrous ion oxide, ferrites including oxides of copper and nickel may be used. Magnetic hydrous ion oxide as adsorbent facilitates the use of magnetic separation process to easily collect adsorbed particles, thus enabling the adsorbed particles to be formed into colloid or particulates to result in increased adsorption capacity.
