Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide high-density active carbon fiber paper not having irregularity in density and blending and useful as adsorption paper by a method wherein fibrous active carbon having a specific fiber length and percentage crimp and other fibrous material are dispersed into water and made into paper.
CONSTITUTION: Fibrous active carbon having an average fiber length of 0.5W 10mm and percentage crimp of 3% or less and other fibrous materials in 1:0.1W1:1 weight ratio are dispersed into water, and the dispersion is made into paper to provide active carbon fiber paper. To produce the above fibrous active carbon, regenerated cellulose fiber or novolak crosslinked fiber having an average fiber length of 1W10mm and substantially free from percentage crimp is carbonized and activated by treatment under an atmosphere containing steam at 800W1,000°C. As other fibrous materials, natural fiber such as wood pulp, flax pulp, semi-synthetic fiber such as rayon, synthetic pulp such as polyethylene, inorganic fiber such as asbestos fiber can be used.
