Abstract

The use of recovered natural or synthetic fibres as a plant growth medium and soil improvement agent is new. The fibres are cohesive and have good water-retention and capillarity. Besides being used as a growth medium alone they may be mixed with soils lacking cohesion or having too great a permeability. The fibres pref. have a length of 1-20mm and are prepared by any of the following methods: 1. Crushing used fibrous materials in water and using the resultant sheets or flock in the wet state, or drying them for storage and rehumidifying before use.
