Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the specified alignment state to be obtained readily, accurately and rapidly by slippably holding the terminal parts of respective optical fibers then contacting the pressure contact faces of an aligning tool to the end of each terminal part thereby aligning them. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers A1, A2, A3 and their terminal parts a1, a2, a3 are fitted into the concave recesses 21, 22, 23 respectively of the substrate 3 in a holding tool 1, the optical fibers A1-A3 being fitted into the wider portions of said grooves and the terminal parts a1-a3 into the narrow portions thereof. Thence, pressure plates 51, 52 are put on and are loosely locked by set screws 4. As a result of this, respective optical fibers are held slippably to the length wise direction. Thence, the ends of the respective terminal parts a1, a2, a3 in a protruding state than the holding tool 1 and the pressure-contacting face 7 of an aligning tool 6 are put in a contact state and the aligning tool 6 is relatively moved to the holding tool 1 side, whereby the ends of the terminal parts which has been in an irregular state are orderly aligned. Thence, the set screws 4 are firmly retightened to fix the alignment state.
