Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively remove the heat generated in a battery by separating the air chamber positioned at the back of an air electrode into the cooling air part and the reactive air part by using a separator. CONSTITUTION:In a fuel battery, a fuel electrode 2 and an air electrode 1 are arranged through an electrolyte chamber 3, and at the back of each electrode, a fuel chamber 6 and an air chamber 4 are arranged respectively. In the air chamber 6 of the fuel battery, a separator 5 is arranged to separate the space B for passing the cooling air from the space A for passing the reactive air. The separator 5 is made of, for example, metal and insulating material, and the surface of the metal and the surface which contacts with the air electrode 4 are suitably insulation- treated with poly-tetrafluoroethylene resin. Accordingly, the cooling air amount and the reaction air amount can be controlled separately, so irrespective of the water balance between the amount of water formed through reaction and the amount of water removed by air, necessary cooling air amount is prescribed, and sufficient cooling effect can be obtained.
