PURPOSE:To obtain a cell suitable for the control of charge according to the temperature of cell by increasing the gas permeability of the separator of a spiral electrode housed in the outer can of cell beyond that of the central part by means of a separator provided in the outside circumference. CONSTITUTION:The main separator 1 is provided between the positive electrode plate 3 and negative electrode plate 4, and they are coiled up to form a spiral electrode. And, an enclosed type storage battery is formed, having a charge control system in which oxygen gas generated from the positive electrode plate 3 upon overcharging is absorbed in the negative electrode plate 4 of the spiral electrode and the rise of temperature accompanied at the time of oxygen absorption is detected by the surface temperature of the outer can of the cell. The separator 1 provided between the plates of the spiral electrode of such a storage battery is so designed that the gas permeability of the outside circumference is greater than that of the central part of the spiral electrode, e.g., the absorption of gas in the cathode plate 4 in the outside circumference is accelerated by interposing the auxiliary separator 10 in the central part.
