Abstract
PURPOSE:To remove a metal ion which causes self-discharge and prevent the degradation of the capacity of a sealed type lead storage battery when it is let along at high temperatures by inserting fine powder carbon between impregnating materials used jointly with a separator that is mainly paper-made of glass fiber. CONSTITUTION:A battery is formed by providing two paste-type positive plate 1 and three negative plates 2, overlaying two separators 3 which are mainly paper- made from glass fiber, holding tyep positive plate 1 in a U-shaped form, and inserting 3g carbon black 4 between these two separators 3 so that the carbon black 4 cannot touch the plates 1 and 2 directly. As a result, the impurity metal ion in the electrolyte is easily absorbed in the carbon black 4 and insulated from the plates 1 and 2. Besides, when the battery is charged and discharged, the ion is not difficult to remove and battery performance can be improved by reducing self-discharge.
