Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain pure gypsum and snow-white Al(OH)3 from a sulfate soln. contg. Fe and Al by adding CaC2 or Ca(NO3)2 to the soln.; separating gypsum formed; adding a Ca type neutralizing agent to the gypsum-free soln.; and separating Fe and Al hydroxides.
CONSTITUTION: To a sulfate soln. contg. Fe and Al, e.g., waste sulfuric acid used to treat acidic clay is added a Ca salt of a monobasic mineral acid, e.g., CaCl2, and gypsum formed is separated. A Ca type neutralizing agent such as clay lime sludge having a CaO to SiO2 wt. ratio of 0.5W4 is added to the resulting mineral acid salt soln. contg. Fe and Al to precipitation-separate the Fe at pH 2W3.5, and by further adding the agent the Al is precipitated at pH≥3.6. Thus, pure gypsum with value in use and Al(OH)3 suitable for use as a water purifying agent, a flame retarder, etc. are obtd. from waste acid, and Ca salt formed by removing the Fe and Al can be recycled for gypsum separation.
