Abstract

PURPOSE: To easily emulsify rubber melt which is heated at 90°C or higher with addition of a nonionic surfactant of specified HLB, by dispersion into warm or hot water, to which an amphoteric surfactant or a nonionic surfactant of specified HLB has been added.
CONSTITUTION: In the emulsification of rubber melt, specially those, such as spent tires, containing carbon black, 3W30pte.wt. of a nonionic surfactant (polyoxyetheylenesorbitan monoleate, etc.) of HLB 7W15 is added to 100pts.wt. of the rubber melt broken down by a screw extruder, and they are heated and mixed at 90°C or higher. 100pts.wt. of the mixture is dispersed into at least 70pts.wt. of a solution in which 2W20 parts of an amphoteric surfactant (laurylbetain etc.) or a nonioric surfactant (polyoxyethylene lauryl ether etc.) of HLB 15W20 has been dissoled in 100 parts of water. The emulsion thus obtained is stable and used for water paints, adhesives, etc. This method is useful for the utilization of spent rubber.
