Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as a catalyst and an intermediate of medicines, under mild conditions, in high yield, by reacting 1,5-cyclooctadiene with phosphine at a specific molar ratio.
CONSTITUTION: 9-Phosphabicyclononane is prepared by reacting 1 mole of 1,5- cyclooctadiene with 1.5W5 moles of phosphine at 50W160°C under a pressure of 10W70kg/cm2 in the presence of a radical-generating catalyst (e.g. azonitrile, dialkyl peroxide, etc.) and in the absence of O2. The objective compound can be selectively produced with little production of by-products, by the above combination of the molar ratio of the raw materials and the mild reaction conditions. The phosphine can be prepared by the reaction of yellow phosphorus with an alkali, however, the industrially available, by-produced phosphine can be used advantageously as the raw material.
