Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain sharp images by applying alternating oscillating voltages to a thickness defining member for sleeve.
CONSTITUTION: The toner existing in the A part is coated to a thin layer on a sleeve 2 by a thickness defining member 11 and is sent to the left side. If part of the toner causes cohesion in the A part and the portion between the member 1 and sleeve 2 is choked up, the toner cannot pass therethrough and the toner layer cannot be coated stably and evenly. If alternating external oscillating electric fields are applied between the member 1 and sleeve 2 in order to prevent such a situation, the toner receives force by the electric fields near the member 1. When the member 1 is of positive potential with respect to the sleeve 2, the toner moves in the direction of the member 1, thus the toner reciprocates between the sleeve and member in correspondence to the member 1 becoming of positive and negative potentials with respect to the sleeve 2. The cohesion of the toner particles may be prevented by the reciprocating motion of then the toner, the particles are loosened piece by piece and the toner is closely deposited on the sleeve.
