Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable heat transfer through the difference in density between plural working fluid without a mechanical driving force by using Na and NaH as the working fluid in a loop-type heat transfer element.
CONSTITUTION: An Na and NaH are enclosed in a circulation circuit containing a rising channel and a lowering channel separately, as a working fluid. At the heating part H of the circulation circuit the working fluid is heated, while at the cooling part C the fluid is cooled. At the heating part H, a sodium hydride in the working fluid is dissociated to produce hydrogen gas. Since the hydrogen gas turns bubbles 8 and reduces the apparent density of the working fluid, the fluid rises in an empty tube 1 and reaches the cooling part C, where, the fluid being cooled, the hydrogen in the fluid reacts on the sodium to form the sodium hydride, then falling down through an empty tube 2. In this way, owing to the difference in density caused by a chemical reaction, the working fluid circulates in the arrowed direction.
