Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce the tin-free steel of improved adhesion between films by containing silicofluorides, etc. and phosphoric acid (salt) in the electrolytic chromate treatment bath forming a Cr hydrated oxide film on a metal Cr film and performing cathode electrolytic treatment at high current density.
CONSTITUTION: After the steel strip 1 having been passed through a Cr-plating bath 2, it is washed in a water bath 2 and sent into an electrolytic chromate treating bath 4 to let a Cr hydroated oxide film be formed on the metal film having been formed in the bath 2. In this case, one or more kinds of silicofluorides and borofluorides of molar ratios of 1/4000W1/400 and phosphoric acid or water-soluble phosphate of molar ratios 1/10000W1/100 based on chromic acid are contained in the bath 4. By using this electrolyte, the cathode electrolytic treatment is executed preferably at high current density of 10A/dm2. As a result of this, the tin-free steel having the surface characteristics which obviate the occurrence of peeling despite being subjected to severe bending work is obtained.
