Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce the high-strength coil spring by heating a steel bar or steel wire to an austenite state and winding the same after giving torsional strain of 0.3 or more on the surface while pulling the steel bar or the like at 30-90% of its tensile yield strength during cooling or winding the same while giving torsional strain. CONSTITUTION:A steel bar or steel wire 1 is heated to an austenite state in a heating part 2, after which it is controlled and cooled to the specified temperature in a cooling part 3. This is sent to the chuck 5 of a torsion device by draw-out rollers 8. While the steel bar or the like 1 gripped by the chuck 5 is being pulled at 30- 90% of its tensile yield strength, it is torsion-worked by the revolution of the chuck 5, whereby the torsional strain of 0.3 or more is given at the surface. Next, it is cut with a cutter 4 and is formed to a coil spring by a coil former 6. Or the steel bar or the like out from the cooling part 3 is cut to a fixed length, after which one end thereof is gripped with the chuck 5 and is formed to the coil spring by the coil former 6 while being given with the specified torsional strain through revolution of the chuck 5.
