Abstract
PURPOSE: To remove and reduce the Ti in casting iron in preference to other component elements by adding slag-forming agent more than once and N compound more than twice or continuously to molten iron and capturing Ti nitrides formed as slag.
CONSTITUTION: A slag forming agent (e.g. limestone, Na2CO3) is added more than once and N compound (e.g., CaCN2, Si3N4) not less than twice or continuously to molten iron (particularly casting iron Class 3). Thence, the TiN formed is mechanically captured as slag and is floated on th molten iron surface and is thereby separated. According to this method, the iron making raw materials such as iron ore which have been infeasible to be compounded or whose compounding amount has been limited owing to high Ti contents may be used or increased ore amount. Further, iron kinds have hitherto been properly blown while attention is being given to the Si and Ti amounts in the pig iron, but according to this method, the charged Ti amount will not rate-determine the action in the blast furnace operation, thus the blast furnace operation stabilizes.
