Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent gas from escaping from a coke oven during coal charge, by simultaneously drawing the gas by suction both from an ascention pipe and from a communication pipe on the side opposite to the ascention pipe, and introducing the drawn gas to a drying main.
CONSTITUTION: Block valves 14, 14A and 14B, each installed at a coking chamber 9 being at the cycle of coal charge and adjacent coking chambers 9A and 9B are put to open position, and then, the force of suction from the chambers 9, 9A and 9B is increased. In order to increase the force of suction the ejection of an ammonia liquor in a bent pipe 3B is carried out at elevated pressure. Then, coal is charged through charge openings 13A, 13B, 13C and 13D. The gas produced in the chamber 9 during coal charge is drawn from both pipes, i.e., from the ascention pipe 3A as shown by 6 and from the upper portion of the chamber 9, situated on the side opposite to the ascention pipe 3A as shown by 6A. Thereby, escaping of the gas from the charge openings 13A, 13B, 13C and 13D is prevented.
