Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve treatment efficiency by a method wherein a gas to be treated in a treatment furnace is purged out by a hot clean gas at the time of change-over, in the case of treating a harmful substance by sequentially and selectively passing the gas to be treated and a hot-treated gas in regenerative packed beds.
CONSTITUTION: A regenerative harmful-substance treatment furnace 1 comprises: plural packed beds 2 partitioned by partition walls; a combustion chamber 3 provided above the beds 2; an auxiliary burner 4 fitted in the chamber 3; lower chambers 5 provided under the beds 2; and a to-be-treated gas inlet valve 7, hot-treated gas outlet valve 8, and purging gas inlet valve 9 arranged for selection of the gas passed in the beds 2. Fig. 1-1 shows normal operation condition. When heat recovery is conducted by reversing the gas passage as shown in Fig. 1-3, starting from the condition shown in Fig. 1-1, the changeover is conducted by way of a condition shown in Fig. 1-2. That is, the to-be-treated gas remaining in the furnace 1 is purged into a high-temperature combustion zone by a clean gas hotter than itself, before the change-over is conducted.
