Abstract

PURPOSE:To make operations simpler by holding and guiding a plug holder perpendicularly and vertically with respect to a flat plate polishing disc. CONSTITUTION:A flat-plate form polishing disc 9 provided with a circular protrusion affixed with a polishing film 10 on the surface parallel with the flat plate member surface at the height H of 1/2 or less of the maximum outside dimension size of its central part is prepared. On this is then disposed the cylindrical material 11 which has the circular spot-faced part of an inside diameter D2 being the inside diameter less than twice the outside dismeter D1 of the protrusion of the polishing disc 9 and smaller than the largest outside shape of the polishing disc 9 and having a depth of the size slightly larger than the height H of the circular protrusion and is pierced with the guide hole provided with the plug holder anti-turning mechanism in the position satisfying epsilon<D1-D2/2 where the eccentricity amount from the center of said spot-faced part is let epsilon, perpendicualarly to the end face of the spot-faced part side. The plug holding member consisting of a collet chuck 12, holder 13 and nut 14 is held thereto. Then, if the plug 4 with a fiber 1 is held to the plug holding member and the cylindrical member 11 is rotated while being pressed to the polishing disc 9 surface, then the end face of the plug 4 is polished by the polishing by the polishing film 10.
