Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the propagation state of AE waves by bringing a collet chuck and the circumferential surface in the hole of a shaft member into face contact, and constituting a tapper with a float mechanism optimum for propagation of AE waves. CONSTITUTION:A shaft member 12 inserted into a tap holder body 11 is provided floatably in an axial direction with respect to a tap holder body 11 by means of a ball 13, a ball bearing 14, springs 15, 16 and a spacer 17. A holder 22 of a large diameter for fitting to the leading end of the member 12 is provided and a set screw 23 is screwed at one place. A tap collet 21 mounted with a tap is fitted into the hole 22 of the member 12, and is fixed in the hole by means of the set screw 23. Since the contact surface of the tap collet 21 and the member 12 is assured of optimum surface sourghness, AE waves are propagated well to the shaft member without attenuation.
