Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent the oxidation of faying surfaces and make the faying surfaces consistent in quality without melting the base metals by disposing two heating systems of indirect heating and direct heating by electric current, besides vacuum system and inert gas pressing system, in the diffusion-bonding device.
CONSTITUTION: The device has two heating systems of a direct current supplying heating system of a power source 10, electric bar 9, upper and lower pressing current-supplying jigs 3, 4, etc. and an indirect heating furnace 12, differing from conventional devices, besides a vacuum system and a pressing system. The materials to be bonded 2 inserted with an insert material 1 is placed between the pressing jigs 3, 4 within a bacuum chamber 7 and the inside of the chamber 7 is evacuated with a vacuum pump not illustrated. The materials to be welded 2 are then lifted by a cylinder 8 and are heated to the specified temperature by the indirect heater 12, in an inert gas atmosphere, after which the insert material 1 is melted and diffused by the foregoing direct current supplying heater, whereby bonding is accomplished. Since only the insert material 1 of the same base as the base metals is heated, the faying surface are perfectly homogenized in quality through equal temperature holding by indirect heating after the stoppage of current supply without melting the base metals.
