Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a strong lubricating film without peeling during cold plastic working by a method wherein a material to be worked is introduced into a container filled with an inert gas and subjected to surface treatment by generating glow discharge between the said container and the material to form a compounded film having self-lubricating property. CONSTITUTION:A material to be worked comprising a metal such as high alloy steel containing 3-25% of Cr is introduced into a closed container evacuated to below 10<-2> torr, and pref., the container is used as an anode and the material to be worked is used as a cathode and glow discharge is generated between both electrodes while about 1 torr of an inert gas is introduced. By this surface treatmtne, oxide film strongly adhered to a surface of a material to be worked is broken as well as an atomic embossed surface is formed. Therefore, the adhesive strength of a self- lubricating film formed by a subsequent phosphate treatment or the like is enhanced and a phenomens such as peeling, seizure or the like of the said film is not generated even if the sliding action under high load according to cold plastic working is imparted.
