PURPOSE: To provide a tool steel having deformation resistance higher than conventional one for processing high temperature metal material and suited to drill or roll plug by using a specific composition of C, Mo, Cr, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A tool steel contains C: 0.1W0.5%, Mo: 3W7%, Cr: 1.5W3.5%, Ni: 0.2W3% and the remaining Fe, or further addition of one or more elements of V, W and Co in the range of V: 0.1W1%, W: 0.5W2%, Co: 0.5W1%, with total amount being less than 2%. This tool steel is subject to black annealing is made to form plug, etc, and used to drill press roll, etc. with the result that high hardness is maintained at high temperatures and deformation little occurs. In this manner, addition of specific range of V, W and Co enhances high temperature strength and hardness.
