Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the amount of steam taken out of a waste-heat boiler, by feeding a formaldehyde formation gas at a high temperature through the excess methanol method, and by effecting heat exchange of the gas after heat recovery with the feed-water to the boiler.
CONSTITUTION: A formaldehyde-containing gas at a high temperature, obtained through contact reaction of methanol with air, is subjected to heat exchange with high-pressure water in a waste-heat boiler, and cooled to 150W200°C. The cooled gas is then subjected to heat exchange with the feed-water to the boiler in a shell- and-tube heat exchanger, and preheated under pressure to increase the amount of steam taken out of the boiler by 15% or more. Thus, the waste heat is recovered from the gas.
