Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Methane compounds of formula I [wherein R1, R2 are H, lower alkyl, aralkyl or halogen atom, hydroxyl, cyano or lower alkoxy-substd. lower alkyl; R3 is H, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy; x is a radical of formula II (wherein R4, R5 are H, lower alkyl, phenyl) or a radical of formula III].
EXAMPLE: Compound of formula V.
USE: Photoconductive element of sensitized material, and intermediates of dyes and drugs.
PREPARATION: An aniline derivative of formula IV is reacted with a heterocyclic formyl compound of formula X-CHO or formula III in the presence of mineral acid and urea to produce the desired compound. The reaction is carried out in alcohols or water. After the completion of the reaction, the reaction mixt. is introduced into water and then neutralized with an acid. The methane compound crystallized out is separated and recrystallized from a mixed solvent consisting mainly of ethanol or methanol to isolate the methane compound.
