Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable automatic welding of high thermal conduction material by preventing occurrence of blow hole, by heating the vicinity of weld zone to a temperature below the melting point simultaneously, and restricting scatter of heat in the direction vertical to the weld line, when welding the work with main electrode.
CONSTITUTION: A welding torch 1 is equipped with a main electrode 2 for welding, and electrodes 3, 4 for preventing heat scattering, and each electrode is energized from a power supply 5 through a switching device 6 to perform welding by generating an arc 8 between the electrode and a work 7. The device 6 consists of a group of transistor elements 9, and the current is passed by switching alternately in a control device 10 in order to prevent arc interference among three electrodes. The electrodes 2 to 4 are disposed in a line vertical to the direction of weld line 11. Welding is performed by forming a molten pool 12 with the electrode 2, and the solidification rate of the pool is adjusted by the electrodes 3, 4 thereby forming an excellent bead 13. Since preheating is not required in this process, the method may be automated.
