Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the drooping of molten metal and improve welding quality by injecting pressure gas toward the lower part of the molten metal right before arc extinguishing in the vertical arc spot welding method.
CONSTITUTION: A base plate 10 and a welding torch 12 is disposed at a suitable spacing and arc 16 is generated between a W-made electrode 14 and base plate 10. The base plate 10 is melted by the heat of this arc and molten metal 18 is formed, whereby welding is accomplished. Right before the extinguishing of the arc 16, inert gas is blown toward the lower part of the molten metal 18 from the nozzle 20 of the welding torch 12 held slightly upward. The molten metal 18 will not form any recess of undercut in the upper part and overlap protrusion in the lower part by gravity and the weld zone of the superior shape is formed.
