Abstract
PURPOSE:To make possible controlling of penetration shapes without preheating and achieve higher quality of weld zone by providing preheating effect through utilization of part of molten metal and discharging the other molten metal to the outside in vertical welding of the material requiring preheating. CONSTITUTION:A welding wire 4 and shielding gas are supplied from a torch 3. When welding is started, the portion where molten metal pools in the groove 2b of a strap 2 and becomes deeper than the depth h is discharged from 2a. As the strap 2 is moved upward, welding progresses. The molten metal pooled in the groove 2b of the strap 2 acts as a preheating heat source for base metal 1. The amount of the metal being discharged is controlled by controlling the rate of movement and the molten metal 5 of the groove 2b is controlled of the rate of heating by arc heat, whereby preheating effect may be controlled. Further, the direct influencing power of the arc upon the base metal 1 may be controlled, thus even the materials of high heat conductivity such as steel and copper may be welded without preheating by another heating heat source.
