CONSTITUTION:The mandrel bar MB is inserted into the pipe blank PP; under this condition, the outer diameter D of this pipe blank PP is measured by the detector 11 when passing each stand, on the exit side of that stand. This information is corrected by the correction operator 13 into the clearance size D' between bottoms of grooves of caliber rolls 1a, 1b, and information on this value D' is inputted to the roll gap operator 14. The roll gap operator 14 operates the roll gap (h) from this valve D' and previously set and memorized value of diameter DM of the mandrel MB according to the forfula h=1/2(D'-DM). The comparison operator 15 operates the difference of this value (h) from the aim value hO, and operates the roll gap variation S required in naking zero this difference.
