Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable to operate a compound rotary engine at a high efficiency, by employing an arrangement in which a compression rotor is constituted by forming a projection and a recess respectively on the surface of a pair of circumscribed, short cylinders having an equal diameter and inscribed in a large cylinder, and explosion gas produced by the compression rotor is supplied under pressure to a power rotor having a similar structure.
CONSTITUTION: When rotors 1, 2 are rotated respectively in the directions shown by arrows in the drawing, fuel gas is drawn from suction port 7 to the back projection 3 formed on rotor 1 and then compressed at the front portion of projection 3 in cooperation with the peripheral portion of rotor 2. Fuel gas thus compressed to a certain level is discharged from outlet port 8 and forced into combustion chamber 18 from inlet port 16 of explosion cylinder. When piston 19 is located substantially at the uppermost position in the explosion cylinder, fuel gas is exploded by ignition plug 15 so that piston 19 is moved downward. When the piston 3 is subseqently moved upward, combustion gas is discharged from outlet port 17 and supplied into cylinder 27 from inlet port 32 of power rotor. Resultantly, the power rotor is driven by the expansion of combustion gas.
