Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce distortion occurring when transmitting a picture where positions on edge-scanning lines of black signals different in pulse length on adjacent scanning lines agree, on facsimile transmission attended with ternary conversion.
CONSTITUTION: A binary signal like a facsimile signal is inputted from terminal 21 and stored in shift register 23 by sampling clock 22. The output of register 23 is sent out to output terminal 24, supplied to black-signal counter 25, where the length of the black signal is counted, and supplied via inverter 26 to white-signal counter 27, where the length of the white signal is counted. Judging from the discrete value of counter 25, detection circuits 28, 29 and 31 detect isolated black signals of one bit, four bits and five bits in black signal length. Then, detection circuit 33 detects the edge of a long black signal at the time of present scanning and circuits 34, 35 and 36 detect isolated black signal outputs of one, four and five bits from circuits 28, 29 and 31.
