Abstract
PURPOSE: A catalyst for the polymerization of olefins which is capable of effectively forming highly stereoregular polymers with higher activity, consisting primarily of a specific compound obtained by jointly gringind a mg compound, an electron donative compound, and a Ti compound and an organometal compound containing the elements of the periodic table 1 to 3 groups.
CONSTITUTION: A magnesium dihalide or its complex Mg compound, an electron donative compound(less than 2 mole per 1 g atom of Mg), and a tetravalent Ti compound(more than 2 g atom of Ti per 1 mole electron donative compound) of the formula Ti(OR)nX4-n (where R is an alkyl group, X is a halogen, and 0 ≤ n ≤ 4) are ground together. In this case, the electron donative compound is a compound to produce a complex with Ti compound, and most favorably aromatic carboxylic acid esters. The ground mixture is mixed with an organometal compound of the formula I or the formula II to obtain catalyst for polymerization. In the formulas, M1 is an alkail metal, M2 is an alkaline earth metal, and R1 to R4 are C1 to C20 hydrocarbon groups. This catalyst has higher catalytic activity and obviates the needs for removal of residual catalyst.
