Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a method of separating water from slip which can be suitably used for the production of low soda alumina and which permits increasing the filtering efficiency and melting efficiency, symplifying the process, and decreasing the cost and amount of waste.
CONSTITUTION: In a case where, for example, soda is removed from aluminum hydroxide to produce low soda alumina, slip of sluminum hydroxide in a mixer 1 is sent into a high-pressure tank 4 via a pipe 3 by a pressure pump 2. The interior of the tank 4 is heated at this time by subjecting vapor, which is sent thereinto from a boiler 9, to heat exchange by a heat exchanger 5 so to be turned into water, which is discharged through a drain 10. The tank is thus filled with heated water. The soda contained in the aluminum hydroxide is dissolved in the heated water and then sent into a filter press 8 via a discharge pipe 6 and a valve 7, to allow the mass to be separated into water and aluminum hydroxide containing a small amount of water.
