Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable elimination of smooth couple of inertial forces occurred at crankshaft system for a three-cylinder engine via one balancer shaft by semibalancing the respective cylinders of the ingine. CONSTITUTION:The crank arms 1 to 3 corresponding to the respective cylinders of a three-cylinder engine are disposed at an interval of 120 deg. toward the direction of a crankshaft 4. In this case, there are provided a mass corresponding to the mass of the rotating portion such as crank arms, crank pins, etc. of the respective cylinders and another mass corresponding to half the mass of the reciprocating portions such as pistons, piston pins, etc. at the crankshaft 4 of the respective cylinders to thereby retain the composite intertial force rotating in opposite direction to the crankshaft 4 at the respective cylinders. There are also provided balancers 6, 7 at the balancer shaft 5 provided to rotate in parallel with the crankshaft 4 and in opposite direction thereto for cancelling the couple of inertial forces occurred at the crankshaft system, at first and third cylinder sides thereof.
