Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a double electrode which makes the entire diaphragm conductive with a higher pressure welding effect while enabling the shielding of diffusing H2 to the anode metal member from the member on the cathode side of the diaphragm with metal such as copper, lead and Al or alloy thereof interposed in the intermediate layer of the diaphragm provided with the pressure welded section.
CONSTITUTION: This double electrode has a diaphragm comprising a metal member 1 on the anode side, an intermediate metal 2 and a metal member 3 on the cathode side. The member 1 of the diaphragm 4 and a porous anode plate 5 is connected by an anode support body 6 and the member 3 and a porous cathode plate by a cathode support body 8. A parallel band-shaped pressure welded section 9 is provided in the proximity of either side of the support body 6 to reduce the electric route. The afore-mentioned metal 2 employs a soft conductive metal such as copper, lead and Al, the anode member Ti, Ta or the like and the cathode member anti-corrotion material (e.g. screen made of iron or Ni) subject to the condition of the cathode.
