Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a moisture sensitive compsn. which is based on a ferrous salt, ascorbic acid and a carlonate, is applicable to food, and colors in the presence of moisture.
CONSTITUTION: This compsn. is based on a ferrous salt such as FeSO4, FeCl2 or Fe(NO3)2, d- or l-ascorbic acid or its salt, and a carbonate such as Na2CO3, K2CO3, KHCO3 or CaCO3. The blending ratio depends on necessary sensitiveity and hue, yet the amt. of the ferrous salt is pref. about 0.1 part by wt. to 1 part by wt. of ascorbic acid. This compsn. assumes a white color at an anaerobic state and turns purple in the presence of moisture or steam. Accordingly, it can be used as an indicator for judging the power of a descicating agent.
