Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform the analysis quickly and to improve the precision of analysis by oxidizing manganess easily and completely by adding an oxidation accelerator when the manganese is oxidized by sodium periodate.
CONSTITUTION: Manganese content in iron and steel is determined by the sodium- periodate oxidation absorptiometry. When the manganese in iron and steel is oxidized by sodium periodate to obtain a permanganate or before the oxidation, a solution of iron nitrate is added to the sample. Because the iron nitrate acts as an oxidation accelerator when the magnanese is oxidized by sodium periodate, the determination time can remarkably be reduced.
