Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect engenderment of cavitation by detecting attenuation in penetrative waves or reflected waves of pulse signals shot into the fluid or abnormal noises.
CONSTITUTION: A supersonic sensor 4 is attached to the piping in the part where is liable to engender cavitation at the inlet port 3 of a pump, from the sensor 4 are shot high frequency pulses which are made in a pulse signal generator 5 to be constant in their wave height into the fluid in the inlet port 3 of the pump, they are returned from the piping bulkhead opposite thereto, which are captured as reflected waves by the supresonic wave sensor 4. This situation can be observed with use of a cathode tube 8, and when the level of the reflected waves has gone down beyond a settled value, a limiter 6 works, which operates an alarm device 7 to announce the engenderment of cavitation. While, if a pre-amplifer 9 is connected to th output of the sensor 4, the sounds in the pump can be obtained.
