Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the freight handling work in safety by reflecting the ultrasonic wave from a base boom on the endmost reflecting plate of inside boom and measuring the time delay required for reciprocating a multistage stretchable boom via the ultrasonic wave to detect accurately the boom length.
CONSTITUTION: There are provided an ultrasonic wave generating speaker 4, receiving microphone 8 arranged at the base end of a base boom 1, and a reflecting plate 7 provided in the internal box 3 at the end of a boom A. Since the ultrasonic wave irradiated from the speaker 4 is reflected on the plate 7 into the microphone 8 and fed through an amplifier 9, and filter 10 where unnecessary ultrasonic wave is removed, into a phase-to-voltage converter 11 for detecting the phase difference from the ultrasonic wave directly entered from an oscillator 5 to produce a voltage proportional to the difference, the voltage is measured to detect the boom length on an indicator 12.
