Abstract
PURPOSE: To prevent mechanical mutual action with a coated pipe by obviating the expansion of the end surfaces of a pellet, by allowing the formation of a large beveling angle without shaping cracks by mounting difference for grinding to the angles of both end surfaces of the pellet, by dusting and by grinding finishing.
CONSTITUTION: Uranium dioxide powder 1' is filled into a cylindrical metal mold with diameter slightly larger than the diameter of a final molded pellet, and dusted so that a convex curved surface 7 outward be shaped toward upper or lower end surface from a projected surface 5, which is formed by extending an angle portion of the cylindrical pellet in parallel with the upper and lower end surfaces 4 from the circumferential flank 3, and a terminal 6 of the projected surface 5. The dusted and molded pellet is sintered, and the projected surface 5 is ground along the axial direction. When the rate of the curvature radius R2 of the convex curved surface 7 and the radius R1 of the final pellet is made to be 1:5, the expansion of the end surfaces of the pellet can be prevented regardless of the temp rise of the pellet.
